News
Hello Everyone!
We hope this message finds you well and enjoying a holiday season filled with live music, friends and family. We would also like to extend our deepest gratitude for your support of our 2023 season. The enthusiasm for our local performances and our Mentorship work continue to grow, and for that we have YOU to THANK!
One of the most satisfying parts of the job I have as Artistic Director is to find, study, select and finally organize repertoire into concert programs that inspire and challenge Sinfonia’s musicians and that stimulate and move our listeners. Awash in colorful orchestration made possible by a larger orchestra of strings, winds and plucked instruments, our upcoming performances of Bach, Handel and Rameau reflect a long-awaited Sinfonia bucket list of contralto and soprano arias that range from heartrending to hilarious.
So mark your calendars now for Saturday, February 24th in Sacramento and Sunday, February 25th in Davis for Sinfonia Spirtuosa’s concerts with rising star soprano Chea Kang, and the extraordinary contralto Sara Couden! See the concert page for the event details, program, and ticket link.
Our February concerts are dedicated to Sinfonia Spirituosa’s treasurer, Carol Perrin, who passed away in December 2023 after fighting multiple battles with cancer. This ensemble exists because of her vision, passion, and dedication. We will forever be profoundly grateful for Carol’s warm friendship and her unwavering support. Her loss is and will continue to be keenly felt.
Happy Holidays!
Lorna Peters
Artistic Director
Dear Friends,
Mark your calendars NOW for the weekend of October 14th and 15th, 2023 — you don’t want to miss these very special concerts! Sinfonia Spirituosa will explore exciting new territory as we perform with guest artist, organist David A. Heller, from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. We are delighted to partner with the Sacramento Valley Chapter of the American Guild of Organists to bring Dr. Heller to California for this extraordinarily varied and unique program of works for organ and baroque chamber orchestra.
See the concert page for the event details, program, and ticket link. Please consider inviting a friend and help us expand our local Sinfonia Spirituosa audience!
Looking forward to seeing you in October!
Lorna Peters, Artistic Director
Dear Friends of Sinfonia Spirituosa,
Although the members of the orchestra have been extremely productive and creative on their own during the last 20 months, we have certainly missed playing together. And we have truly missed you — thank you for your ongoing encouragement and support.
We are really looking forward to our residency at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas in February, and our spring 2022 trio of concerts here in California, April 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
As part of our residency at UC Davis, we will present a concert in the magnificent Recital Hall of the Ann E. Pitzer Center on Friday, April 1st at 7:00 pm.
At 4:00 pm on Saturday, April 2nd, we are honored to perform on the distinguished Music in the Mountains concert series in Grass Valley at Peace Lutheran Church.
And finally, find us in our new Sacramento concert home, Trinity Cathedral, for a 4:00 matinee on Sunday, April 3rd.
Happy New Year!
Lorna Peters, artistic director
Dear friends of Sinfonia Spirituosa,
It’s been a year since we’ve seen most of you, and a year since the orchestra has been together. We hope that you and your families and friends have remained healthy during this long and difficult period. We miss you!
Despite this past year’s restrictions, the members of the orchestra have been very creative and productive on their own. We’d like to share with you some of their accomplishments via monthly postings on our website’s “Sinfonia News” page and also via this newsletter.
The first of these is a February 19th performance of the three solo violin sonatas of Bach performed by our concert master, Jubal Fulks. Buy your ticket soon for this online performance, which is being put on by Happy Hour Chamber Concerts. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to hear Jubal’s fresh, insightful interpretation and his stunningly virtuosic performance of these baroque masterworks. Please note that tickets must be purchased before Friday, February 19th. Note: The concert airs at 5:00 pm in California (the concert series originates in Denver).
We are excited and hopeful about our future performances in Colorado and California, and our university residencies at U.C. Davis and Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas during the 2021 – 2022 season.
Stay tuned for upcoming news and performances from violist Vijay Chalasani, violinist Lindsey Strand-Polyak, and highlights from Sinfonia Spirituosa’s past concert seasons.
Thank you for supporting us!
